About

Alex M Stanley

I build and operate projects across culture, communications and technology. My work spans event production, digital products, campaigns, social media, community projects and increasingly technical systems.

I have a background in Philosophy and have since worked across independent events, client support, media production, digital platforms and operational project work. Alongside this, I've developed a practical interest in computing and technical systems — through self-hosting, web administration, infrastructure work, scripting, and increasingly software development.

A recurring thread across this work is taking a loosely defined idea or system and making it operational: establishing processes, coordinating people, solving practical problems, and building things that actually function. That's been true of running an events project across several UK cities, supporting clients through regulated financial processes, keeping a radio station's social output on schedule, and maintaining small digital platforms end to end.

My current work divides across existing projects, new commercial experiments, technical development, and independent research and writing. I don't treat any one of these as more "real" than the others — they're different expressions of the same approach to getting things built and run properly.

Where things live

This site is the stable, professional hub above my individual projects — the reputation layer, not the projects themselves. Fractal, Bristol FloorScan and my other independent work keep their own identities and, where relevant, their own sites. This one is built to still make sense several years from now, whatever the balance between projects, technology, research and professional career looks like by then.
